Why some 3.5mm audio jack does not play audio well on smartphones?

Well I have a mobile phone with the standard 3.5 mm jack socket and the audio plays well with the earphone that came along with it. But sometime back I lost it. So I bought another one. Now this one does not play audio well. The sound has noise and sounds like a cheap karaoke. I tried another head phone I have for my laptop and it is the same. I was wondering why.

Updating Android Froyo to Gingerbread on ZTE Blade/Dell XCD 35 [old post] All this time I have been contented with my Android phone running on Froyo. But suddenly decided to update my android phone OS from Froyo (Android 2.2) to GingerBread (Android 2.3). Who don’t like to upgrade right?
